About Us

The Book and Paper Arts Guild was founded in 2001, by artists interested in the development of their skills, and the promotion of their work.

Since that date, their artistic and technical expertise as papermakers and bookbinders has grown and membership in the Guild has increased.

Like all craftsmen whose work is based on traditional skills, Guild artists strive to establish a high level of technical craftsmanship, while using their creativity to renew the original purpose of the form. The interaction between Guild members and their materials produces exciting and satisfying results in these related fields.

Our papermakers use many recyclable materials and often make paper from plants they have grown. They use pulp to create 3-dimensional art objects such as vessels and sculptures. Traditional papermaking techniques produce sheets of paper, often used by other artists.

Bookbinders too, produce sculptural forms that challenge the notion of the traditional book structure.  Artists’ books are original work packaged in a decorative format, and altered books reach beyond the conventional book form to become an altogether different object. Historic bindings for modern uses, from many cultures, are also made by Guild artists.

The work of Guild artists is becoming better known. They have displayed their work both individually and as a group in several locations. Local libraries graciously allow their showcases to be used, and art galleries in local communities encourage displays.
